UTICA, NY – The Nazareth College volleyball squad split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, downing SUNY Poly in four sets (21-25, 25-14, 25-23, 27-25) before falling in three sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-23) to New Paltz.

 Nazareth moves to 17-6 overall. 

In the opening match against SUNY Poly, Nazareth's offense was paced by Cady Messmer's 11 kills.  Kelsey Milligan and Carmen Sapp each tallied six kills.

Maureen Thayer had a balanced game with 23 assists, two service aces and 15 digs.

Celia Cordero added 27 digs for the defense.

Melissa Newcomb was efficient in the Golden Flyers three set loss to New Paltz.  She put down 12 kills on 21 attempts with just one error. 

Messmer once again had 11 kills, this time on 32 attempts with five errors.

Sapp had six kills in the match, while Thayer dished out 30 assists.

Messmer and Cordero each had 16 digs.

Nazareth returns to action Wednesday when it will travel to Rochester for a 6 p.m. contest.
