ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth made short work of Buffalo State in a non-conference women's volleyball match Tuesday as the Golden Flyers never trailed in a three-set sweep. Scores were 25-14, 25-12, 25-17.
The victory was the eighth in a row for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 17-5 overall. It was their second win this season over the Bengals, who dropped to 5-19.
Senior
Cady Messmer paced Nazareth with 11 kills on 22 attempts for a .455 hitting percentage. She also contributed two service aces and six digs.
Freshman
Delaney Martin added nine kills, sophomore
Kelsey Milligan had six and sophomore
Carmen Sapp had five. Senior
Maureen Thayer totaled 33 assists.
The Golden Flyers started strong and never let up. They led 7-1 in the opening set and the lead continued to grow. Messmer had five of her kills in the first set , while Martin, Milligan and Sapp each added three.
Messmer had five more kills in the second set and Martin had four as Nazareth raced to a 6-1 lead. Nazareth benefitted in the third set from 11 hitting errors by the Bengals, who finished with a negative percentage of -.049 overall (18-22-82). Nazaret, meanwhile, had just 11 hitting errors and a .303 percentage (38-11-89) overall.
Nazareth is in action this weekend for a pair non-conference matches. The Golden Flyers play SUNY Polytech and New Paltz Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m. respectively.
