ROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth earned its first Empire win of the year on Saturday, downing Utica 2-0 at Golden Flyer stadium, scoring a goal in each half.
Nazareth improves to 6-2-2 overall and 1-1 in Empire 8 play, while Utica drops to 1-9 and 1-3, respectively.
Nazareth's strong attack struck in the 18
th minute off a corner kick. Following an initial shot and scrum in front,
Julia Delgatti cashed in on the door step for her sixth goal of the season.
Allison Dobles kept a blank slate for Nazareth in the 42
nd minute on the Pioneers best chance of the half. Xiomara Rodriguez ripped a shot from outside the 18 that Dobles pushed aside.
Nazareth led 1-0 at the half.
Herman had a good opportunity in the 72
nd minute for the hosts, taking a shot from 8-yards out that scooted wide of the net.
Mary Kate Ordway used an excellent individual effort in the 81
st minute to add an insurance goal, beating three defenders on the left flank and then firing a shot to the far post for the 2-0 advantage.
Nazareth's offense made it difficult all game, generating 30 shots and forcing goalkeeper Allison Wagner to make 18 saves.
Dobles made three saves in net for Nazareth.
Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Alfred at 7 p.m. on the Artificial Turf.
