Men's Soccer Falls To Fisher In Stunning Fashion, 2-1

ROCHESTER, NY –  The Nazareth men's soccer squad lost in heartbreaking fashion with 2.1 seconds remaining in overtime to East Avenue rival St. John Fisher on a header by Brian Rollins Saturday afternoon.  Nazareth nearly ended the game on the other end with :17 seconds remaining on a well-executed combination.  AJ Muoio threaded a pass between two defenders to Lucas Bennett down the right flank.  Bennett sent a cross to the 6-yard box for a one-time shot that was sent over the crossbar by Alessio DeMichele.  The Cardinals quickly countered a long pass from midfield that bounced just inside the 18-yard box, before Rollins headed it into the goal.

Nazareth falls to 3-6-1 with the loss and 0-2-1 in Empire 8 play, while Fisher moves to 2-7-1 and 1-2-0, respectively. 

Bennett got Nazareth on the board first on his third goal of the season in the 20th minute. Muoio lofted a ball over the defense to the six-yard box that Bennett collected and slotted into the far post for the 1-0 advantage.

St. John Fisher scored the equalizer with just over seven minutes left in the half.  AJ Klemczak took advantage of a failed clearance and scored from six yards out to the near post.

It was 1-1 at the half.

Bennett had another strong opportunity in the 67th minute, firing a shot from the 18-yard box, forcing the Fisher goalkeeper to sprawl out for the save.

Rollins nearly put the visitors ahead in the 76th minute as his header from in close hit off the post.

In the overtime period, Ben Rodney took a shot from outside the 18 that hit the crossbar and went straight down, nearly ending the contest. 

Shortly after, Rodney ripped another left footed shot, this time on the ground, that was pushed aside.
 
Ripic made eight saves in net for Nazareth. 

Nazareth returns to action on Saturday when it will travel to Houghton College for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
