Volleyball Falls in Five to Fifth-Ranked Rutgers-Newark

KEAN, NJ – Third-ranked Nazareth faced its toughest test of the season thus far, falling in five sets to fifth-ranked Rutgers-Newark, 25-19,21-25,25-22,17-25,15-11, on Friday night at the Kean Invitational.   Each squad entered the game with unblemished records at 4-0. 

The squads alternated sets with the Scarlet Raiders taking one, three and five and the Golden Flyers taking the sets in between.
 
In the final set, Rutgers-Newark led wire-to-wire to earn the victory. 

Although Nazareth finished with the higher hitting percentage (.315), compared to the Scarlet Raiders (.205), it came out on the losing end.

Grant Levermore notched an impressive .636 hitting percentage, with 17 kills on 22 attempts.  Classmate Tim Zyburt led the way with 18 kills on a .308 attack percentage.

Sophomore Jake Kemp had a stellar outing, dishing out a career-high 51 assists for Nazareth. 

Chris Mahan finished with a team-high three blocks to go along with six kills.

Nazareth returns to action for two matches Saturday facing Baruch, along with Marymount College at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
