HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Nazareth College women's volleyball squad opened up conference play on the road on Wednesday, falling in five sets (25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 20-25, 11-15) to Houghton College.
With the loss, Nazareth falls to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in Empire 8 play.
In the first set,
Jennifer Hicks keyed Nazareth with back-to-back kills in a 6-0 rally to go up 19-12. Nazareth went on the win the first set 25-19.
Cady Messmer registered 15 kills for for the Golden Flyers and 24 digs. Hicks notched 15 kills of her own on a .440 hitting percentage.
Olivia Krick recorded a team-high 32 digs, while
Maureen Thayer racked up 41 assists.
Freshman
Celia Cordero also chipped in seven kills and 12 digs.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday for a tri-match at Hartwick College. The Golden Flyers will square off at 1:30 p.m. against Elmira, before taking on the host Hawks at 4 p.m.
