UTICA, N.Y - Junior
Kailee Coleman scored her second goal of the game 1:02 into the second overtime to lift visiting Nazareth over Utica College, 4-3, on Wednesday night.
With the win, Nazareth improves to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in Empire 8 play, while Utica moves to 2-6, 1-1, respectively.
Coleman collected a pass from
Magill Woodruff on a penalty corner and fired it into the net to seal the victory for Nazareth over the three-time defending Empire 8 champions. It marked just the second time in 14 games that Nazareth has beaten Utica in field hockey and the first time since 2007.
Nazareth jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half with back-to-back goals from the stick of
Catherine Willard. Willard notched her first goal of the game at the 19:50 mark off an assist from
Jessica Livesey.
Just over five minutes later, the Golden Flyers took advantage of a penalty corner with Coleman connecting with Willard from the top of the arc.
Utica was able to grab some momentum going into the half, registering a goal with just 1:10 remaining. The Golden Flyers led 2-1 at the break.
In the second half, Coleman made it a two goal game once again on an unassisted tally at the 51:53 mark.
The Pioneers, however, kept up the offensive pressure, being rewarded twice with goals just 2:13 apart to knot the score at 3-3.
Freshman
Kimber Nourse made her second straight start in net, registering a career-high 21 saves.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday when it will host Ithaca College for a 1 p.m. contest.
