BoxROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College field hockey squad suffered a 3-0 defeat in its season opener at the University of Rochester Wednesday night.
With the win, Rochester moves to 1-0 on the year, while Nazareth falls to 0-1.
The Yellowjackets proved to have a high-powered offense registering 10 shots in the first half, including notching the go-ahead goal at the 11:14 mark. Michelle Relin registered the goal for Rochester off a penalty corner.
Nazareth recorded two shots of its own in the first half, each coming from the stick of senior
Catherine Willard. The score remained 1-0 at the break.
Rochester was able to open up its lead early into the second half, scoring two goals for Nicole Cerza in less than a 10-minute span.
Cerza scored from six yards out in the opening moments of the second, before drilling home a rebound from in close to push the hosts lead to 3-0.
Rochester finished the game with 23 shots compared three for the Golden Flyers.
Senior
Lauren Devine started in net, making 11 saves in 50 minutes of action. Freshman
Kimber Nourse played the final 20 minutes, racking up three saves.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday when it will host Oswego State at 12 p.m.
