Updated statsWASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson scored the game's only goal in the 21st minute Saturday as the host Presidents defated Nazareth in an Empire 8 Conference field hockey game, 1-0.
Nazareth is now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference games. Washington & Jefferson improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the E8.
The Presidents had a 14-8 edge in shots and a 12-6 advantage in penalty corners. Rachel Buyan scored the only goal after her initial shot was kicked aside by Nazareth defender
Marisa Walck, who was credited with a defensive save. Buyan, however, knocked in the rebound for her third goal of the season.
Freshman
Kimber Nourse was in goal for Nazareth and made four saves. Morgan Brozena earned the shutout for the Presidents with six saves.
Nazareth had a chance to tie the game in the second half. In the 52nd minute, a shot by
Megan Paris was saved by Brozena. The rebound went to
Catherine Willard, whose shot was knocked aside by Alana Boyd, who got credit for a defensive save.
Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Wednesday at Utica at 6 p.m.
