Updated statsROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College volleyball squad faced a difficult challenge in hosting Fredonia State (8-1) Wednesday, falling in three sets (21-25, 19-25, 18-25).
The Blue Devils improve to 9-1 overall, while Nazareth moves to 5-4.
The first set was close throughout with the Nazareth trailing 21-20 following a kill from Freshman
Celia Cordero. The Blue Devils, however scored four of the final five points of the set.
After falling behind 13-4 in the second set, Nazareth clawed to within 16-14 after a service ace from
Maureen Thayer. The Blue Devils had an answer though winning the next six points.
Fredonia took control of the third set from the start and never looked back, leading by as much as 20-10.
Cordero led the way with six kills, while also collecting 10 digs.
Cady Messmer racked up 11 digs and three kills, while Thayer notched 20 assists.
Nazareth returns to action this Friday and Saturday for the RIT invitational. The Golden Flyers face Geneseo and Buffalo State at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively on Friday before playing Oneonta and Mount Saint Mary on Saturday.
