Updated statsROCHESTER, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked women's soccer team picked up its third straight shutout in less than a week, downing The College at Brockport 1-0 on Saturday at Golden Flyer Stadium. The Golden Challenge For a Pink Cure game helps raise awareness for breast cancer, with all the proceeds from the contest being donated to the Wilmot Cancer Institute.
Nazareth established a presence from the get-go, creating some quality scoring chances. The Golden Flyers finished with 23 shots, compared to just six for Brockport.
After a scoreless first half, Nazareth nearly broke the scoreless tie with back-to-back scoring chances on the same possession in the 56
th minute.
Briana Vibbard saw her initial shot saved before
Laura Herman tried to knock in the rebound, only to have Brockport goaltender Catherine Eliasson come up with another save.
Nazareth, however, finally broke through in the 68
th minute as a cross from the end line deflected off a Brockport defender, right to the feet of Vibbard who tapped it in for the goal.
The Golden Flyer defense held strong the rest of the contest to help preserve the shutout.
Allison Dobles made four saves in net for her second consecutive shutout.
Nazareth returns to action on Friday when it will travel to St. Lawrence University for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
