ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Visiting Skidmore College scored two first half goals and added another tally late, downing Nazareth 3-0 in the season opener for both schools.
The Thoroughbreds didn't take long to find the back of the net as Augustine Okoye ripped a shot from outside of the 18-yard box, deflecting off a defender and past goalkeeper
Nate Ripic.
Nazareth nearly tallied an equalizer in the 10
th minute as a header from
Ramez Al-Hebshi needed to be deflected off of the crossbar before going over the endline. That save by goalkeeper Eli Kisselbach proved to be the best scoring chance for Nazareth in the contest.
Okoye was on the other end of Skidmore's second goal as he slid a pass across the six yard box to a streaking Kevin Santos for the tap in.
In all, Skidmore proved a tough test, notching 23 shots to the Golden Flyers six.
The visitors added an insurance goal late in the game off a shot from outside the 18 –yard box which clanked in off the far post.
Ripic tallied eight saves in net for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth is home again this weekend to host the annual Doug May Classic. The Golden Flyers host Buffalo State Saturday at 11 a.m., then King's College, Pa. Sunday at 11 a.m.
