ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth scored seven of the first eight goals of the game and never trailed in a 19-8 women's lacrosse romp over Hartwick Saturday in Empire 8 Conference action.

Nazareth remains in a three-way tie for first place with Stevens (6-1 E8) and St. John Fisher (4-1 E8) in the conference standings by improving to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the Empire 8. The Golden Flyers host Alfred Wednesday at 4 p.m. for their final regular-season home game. The Golden Flyers close out their schedule with a key game at Stevens Saturday at 9 a.m.

Against the Hawks, sophomore Kate Rothrock amassed a career-high nine points on three goals and six assists. Junior Carly Gates added four goals; freshman Haley DeVona had three goals and three assists and senior Brooke Sullivan had three goals and two assists.

The game was scoreless for nearly seven minutes before Nazareth scored twice within 32 seconds. Rothrock's 19th goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Jamie Martin and Sullivan followed with her 24th goal.

After Hartwick's Emily Jweid scored to cut the lead in half, Nazareth rattled off the next five goals to take control for good. DeVona scored twice and Sullivan and Rothrock each had one goal and one assist. Bri Mancini also scored.

After Hartwick sored again, Gates netted her first goal of the game and 18th of the season with 1:46 left in the half to give Nazareth a commanding 8-2 advantage.

Nazareth opened the scoring in the second half by scoring three times in a 51-second span to expand the lead to 11-2. Rothrock assisted on all three goals -- first to DeVona and the next two to Gates. Martin, sophomores Leah Marvin and Heather Groot and freshmen Katie Carroll and Morgan Johnson also scored in the second half for the Golden Flyers, who had advantages in shots (36-24), ground balls (21-17) and draw controls (19-10). Gates won five draws and had three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Ashley Kirch and freshman Mackenzie Corbett each played in goal for Nazareth. Kirch had 10 saves and allowed six goals in just over 51 minutes of action. Corbett had two saves with two goals allowed.
