Updated StatsROCHESTER, N.Y. – Visiting Rochester used a 9-0 run over the final 3:06 of the game, including a layup with 2.8 seconds to play, to secure a 60-58 win over host Nazareth on Tuesday night.
With the loss, Nazareth falls to 3-2 on the year, while Rochester moves to 3-1.
Following missed free throws from
Tyler Stenglein with :29 seconds remaining, Rochester's Sam Borst-Smith converted a layup in the lane with 2.8 second to play which proved to be the game-winning bucket.
After a timeout,
Denzell Jackson connected with
Mitch Ford for a 3-point attempt that rattled off the rim as time expired.
Although shooting just 40 percent in the game (22-for-55) and just 9.5 percent from 3-point land (2-for-21), Nazareth led for the majority of the second half, including 55-45 with 6:10 remaining.
In the opening half, Rochester held an 18-14 lead at the midway point of the half, however, the Golden Flyers used a 14-0 run over a 5:51 span to seize a 28-18 advantage.
Rochester was able cut the Golden Flyers lead to just 32-29 at the half.
Ford picked up his fourth double-double of the season with 25 points (8-for-13) and 11 rebounds.
Nick Nadeau was an efficient 6-for-12 from the field for 14 points, to go along with six rebounds. Stenglein added 10 points and two assists.
Nazareth returns to action next Wednesday when it will host a first round contest for the Wendy's College Classic at 8 p.m. The opponent will be announced on Sunday.
