Men's resultsHOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's and men's cross country teams traveled to Houghton on Saturday to compete in the Empire 8 Championships, hosted by Houghton College. In the women's five-kilometer race, Nazareth placed third overall after senior
Gabrielle LeBihan finished fifth with a time of 18:44.6, and sophomore
Kimmy Lovett finished 11th with a time of 19:05.3. LeBihan and Lovett earned first-team and second-team all-conference honors, respectively. The top seven finishers earned first-team honors, and the next seven runners received second-team accolades. Senior
Patrick Neureuter was the top Nazareth finisher in the men's eight-kilometer race to lead the Golden Flyers to a sixth-place finish. Neureuter crossed the line with a time of 26:49.1. Nine schools competed in each race.
Ithaca won the women's team title with a total of 30 points. Stevens took second with 48 team points, and Nazareth was third with 82 total points.
After LeBihan and Lovett, the Golden Flyers had a pack of three runners finish in a span of six seconds, led by junior
Emily Thompson who was 21st with a time of 19:38.5. Senior
Robin Wagner was 22nd with a time of 19:42, and
Jamie DiSalvo rounded out the trio in 23rd with a time of 19:44.
Freshman
Eileen Shea and sophomore
Claire Ludington added 38th and 39th-place finishes. Shea had a time of 20:38.5, and Ludington finished with a time of 20:39.2.
Nazareth was also represented by freshman
Cindy Brownson in 49th (21:08.7), senior
Blair Meeson in 52nd (21:22.2), freshman
Danielle Foeller in 56th (21:42.4), and freshman
Shannon Burke in 72nd (23:16.2).
Similar to the women's meet, Ithaca claimed the men's team title with a total of 32 points. Utica took second with 60 points. St. John Fisher clamied third with 80 points to edge Stevens, who finished with 81 points. Alfred tallied 122 points, and Nazareth finished sixth with a total of 164 points.
After Neureuter, sophomore
Kevin Witt was the second Golden Flyer to finish. He placed 31st with a time of 26:58.9. Juniors
Matt Battaglia and
Jacob Murray were the next two Nazareth runners to cross the finish line. Battaglia was 46th with a time of 27:51.8, and Murray was 49th with a time of 28:03.8. Freshman
Jack Wessel rounded out the Golden Flyers' top-five with a time of 28:12.9 to place 54th.
Additionally, sophomore
Kristopher Newell was 81st (30:40.6), junior
Thomas Lannon was 83rd (31:09.2), and freshman
Jacob Cuyler was 87th (32:50.9).
Nazareth is in action again November 14th when the Golden Flyers travel to Letchworth State Park for the NCAA Atlantic Regionals.
