Women's resultsCLINTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's cross country team, buoyed by the fastest team time in the program's history (116:30), captured its first-ever team title Saturday at the NYSCTC Championships hosted by Hamilton College.
The Golden Flyers had five of the top 14 finishers in the 6-kilometer race to finish with the lowest score in the nine-team field with 38 points. Hamilton was second with 46 points, followed by St. Lawrence (65) and Utica (77).
Nazareth finished seventh in the men's competition with 203 points. Hamilton had five of the top six finishers to take the team title with 16 points.
Senior
Gabrielle LeBihan paced the Golden Flyers' women's team with a second-place finish. She was clocked in 22:32.7, just three seconds behind Hamilton's Michelle Fish.
Sophomore
Kimmy Lovett and junior
Emily Thompson finished fifth and sixth respectively with times of 23:08.6 and 23:17.4. Next was senior
Robin Wagner in 11th place (23:42.5) and junior
Jamie DiSalvo in 14th place (23:49.3). Also competing for Nazareth were sophomore
Claire Ludington in 34th place (24:39.2) and freshman
Eileen Shea in 35th place (24:47.5).
In the men's 8-kilometer race, senior Patrick Neureuter was Nazareth's top finisher in 27th place with a time of 27:15.6. Sophomore Kevin Witt was three places back in 30th place (27:20.0). Junior Matt Battaglia and freshman Jack Wessel were 44th and 45th respectively with times of 28:23.0 and 28:24.2 and junior Jacob Murray finished 57th (30:02.6). Other competitors were junior Tommy Lannon in 60th place (30:30.9) and sophomore Kris Newell in 62nd place (31:33.7).
Nazareth returns to action Saturday at the Empire 8 Championships at Houghton.
"This was a great stepping point for us," said Nazareth Coach
James Goss. "Everyone is fired up for the E8 meet at Houghton."
