Nazareth defeats Hartwick, 3-2

ROCHESTER, NY – Kristina Back scored at 55:32 to break a 2-2 tie with visiting Hartwick and give Nazareth its second straight conference win. The Golden Flyers finish the Empire 8 season at 4-4, just missing a post-season play-off berth. They improve to 8-9 overall and have won four of their last five games. Hartwick is now 4-9, 1-6 in the Empire 8.
 
Catherine Willard put Nazareth on the scoreboard first scoring on a penalty corner just 3:46 into the game. She was assisted by Cathy Stahl, and Kailee Coleman.

Hartwick tied the score 1-1 at 14:29 when Sarah Ryan scored after collecting a rebound of the goalkeepers pads. The Hawks took the lead just five minutes later when Claudia Stone scored an unassisted goal at 19:36 to make the score 2-1. 

Willard scored, her team high 14th goal of the season, at 32:01 to tie the game 2-2 going into halftime.
 
Much of the second half was played in the mid-field with neither team getting many scoring opportunities. It wasn't until 55:32 that Back beat goalkeeper Shannon Carter to give Nazareth the 3-2 lead.
 
Hartwick had a chance to tie it up after a crossing pass sailed past the Golden Flyer defense, but the Hawks were unable to convert on the opportunity.
 
Lauren Devine had three saves. Shannon Carter made five saves in goal for the Hawks. Nazareth had a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners
 
The Golden Flyers honored their eight seniors (Cathy Stahl, Maggie Muzio, Magill Woodruff, Gabrielle DiSanto, Catherine Willard, Megan Paris, Lauren Simonsen, and Lauren Devine) prior to the game today. They will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday, October 28 against Keuka College at 4:30 pm.  They wrap up their regular season with a game at Skidmore College on Saturday, October 31 at 2 pm.
