Updated Stats ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College women's volleyball squad came back late in each set to earn a sweep over the University of Rochester, 25-22, 27-25, 25-22, on Tuesday to earn a victory on senior night. The Golden Flyers honored loan senior
Jennifer Hicks, who mounted a stellar day with 12 kills on a .304 attack percentage.
With the win, Nazareth moves to 14-12 on the season, while Rochester falls to 11-10.
In the opening set, Rochester led 22-19 however Nazareth responded by scoring the final six points of the set for a 25-22 win. Junior
Cady Messmer notched three kills during the rally to propel the Golden Flyers on the serve of
Maureen Thayer.
Nazareth trailed 24-23 in the second set but a kill from
Celia Cordero evened the score. Following a 25-25 match, Hicks and Messmer racked up kills to close out the set 27-25.
After storming out to a 6-0 lead in the third and final set, Nazareth trailed 20-18 late. A balanced attack, however, would provide the spark needed to take the set 25-22.
Messmer finished with team-highs in kills (14) and digs (16).
Kelsey Milligan chipped in five kills, while Cordero managed 13 digs. Thayer ended the day with 26 assists.
Nazareth returns to action on Friday and Saturday for the Wellesley Invitational in Massachusetts. The Golden Flyers square off against Oneonta State at 7 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, Nazareth takes on Wellesley at 10 a.m. and Southern Maine at 2 p.m.
