ITHACA, N.Y. – Nazareth's track and field teams broke several school records Saturday in Ithaca. Both Golden Flyers' 4x400-meter relay teams set new records. Senior Michaela Gildemeyer set a new record in the 1000-meter run, and junior Tom Sippie broke his own record in the 200-meter dash.
The men's 4x400 relay team broke the 2008 record of 3:25.55 with a time of 3:24.95. Freshman Nick LaBarbera started the relay and was followed by sophomore Matt Battaglia, sophomore Jacob Murray, and junior Tom Sippie. Sippie new record in the 200-meter dash is :22.33, a tenth of a second faster than the school record he set last week. It was only .05 off the facility record time.
In addition to running on the 4x400 relay, Battaglia placed second in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:07.51. He was followed by Murray, who placed ninth with a time of 1:09.68. Freshman Kevin Witt added a 10th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:04.44.
In field events, juniors Luis Rivera and Brandon Vuolo each performed well in the 35-pound weight throw. Rivera was third with a mark of 17.49 meters (57 ft., 4 3/4in.), and Vuolo was eighth with a mark of 14.09 meters (46 ft., 2 3/4 in). Vuolo was just .01 meters away from his school record in the shot put. He finished seventh with a mark of 13.66 meters (44 ft., 9 3/4 in.)In the triple jump, junior Khiary Gayle placed sixth with a mark of 13.34 meters (43ft., 9 1/4in.).
The women's 4x400-meter relay team broke Nazareth's 2013 school record by over three seconds, finishing with a time of 4:05.53. Freshman Samantha Goble had the first leg, followed by classmate Andrea Larnard, senior Michaela Gildemeyer, and senior Hannah Brackley. Gildemeyer placed first in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:06.75. She broke Lauren Jamieson's school record of 3:07.08.
Goble won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.41. Brackley still holds the facility record in the event with a time of :59.53 that she set last year. Larnard was less than a second behind Goble, finishing fourth with a time of 1:03.24.
Nazareth had a pair of runners finish in the top-10 in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore Jamie DiSalvo was ninth with a time of 19:45.7, and junior Blair Meeson was 10th as she crossed the line with a time of 19:55.84. In the 4x200 relay, the Golden Flyers finished sixth with a time of 1:51.27. Sophomore Alex Walker teamed with senior Sibongile Chisi, junior Amanda Entress, and Brackley in the event.
The Golden Flyers also had several top performances in field events. Junior Taylor Pierson was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.25 meters (17ft., 2 3/4 in). In the pole vault, Chisi tied her own school record with a mark of 3.05 meters (10 ft.). Chisi was fifth in the event. Entress added a 10th-place finish in the triple jump with mark of 10.15 meters (33 ft., 3 3/4 in.).
Nazareth is in action again next weekend with the Brockport Mid-Season Classic and Ramampo Indoor Select meets scheduled.
