Ithaca holds off Nazareth, 87-73

ITHACA, NY – Nazareth fell to Ithaca in men's basketball, 87-73, Saturday afternoon.  The Golden Flyers are now 6-11 overall and 2-6 in the Empire 8. The Bombers improve to 10-9 and keep their Empire 8 play-off hopes alive by improving to 7-3 in the conference.
 
Nazareth had an early 9-8 lead at 15:59 in the first half and the game saw four ties early on.   The score was tied at 11 all at 15:06 before the Bombers went on a 21-4 scoring run to take a commanding 32-15 lead and never looked back.  The Golden Flyers were scoreless for 3:30 during the Ithaca run.  
 
Nazareth was able to chip away at the lead and came within seven points, 38-31 at the half.  Mitch Ford had 11 points in the first half.
 
Ithaca built its lead early in the second half leading by as much as 19 points, 57-38, with 14:45 left.  However, with 4:28 remaining, Nazareth was able to get within eight points, 70-62, off a Maurice Mills lay-up.  The Golden Flyers attempt at a comeback was thwarted by 12 Ithaca free throws in the final two minutes to secure the 87-73 Bomber victory.   
 
The Golden Flyers were led by Ford and Mills who each finished with 25 points.  Ford also had 15 rebounds and Mills finished with 11 boards. Nazareth's only other scorers were Nick Nadeau with 16 points and Dan Morse with seven. 
 
Nazareth's bench was scoreless in the game and the team shot just 1-of-17 from behind the arc.  
 
The Golden Flyers host Houghton on Tuesday at 8 pm.
