Women's resultsBROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's track and field teams were in action at Brockport on Saturday. Junior
Tom Sippie set the school record in the 200-meter dash with a third-place time of :22.43, which broke Ira Griffin's 2012 record of :22.98. Sippie also took second in the 400-meter event with a time of :49.32. In the women's meet, senior
Hannah Brackley won the 200 and 400-meter dash events with times of :26.49 and :59.13, respectively.
Oneonta claimed first in the men's meet with 155 points, followed by host Brockport with 129.5 points. Hamilton took third with 63 total points. Nazareth's 34 points put them in eighth place of 14 teams.
In addition to the performances by Sippie, freshman
Nick LaBarbera was seventh in the 200 and 400 events. LaBarbera crossed the line with a time of :23.25 in the 200 and :51.11 in the 400 event. Juniors
Khiary Gayle and
Luis Rivera also scored points for the Golden Flyers with second-place finishes in the triple jump and weight throw. Gayle recorded a mark of 13.79 meters (45 ft., 3 in.) in the triple, and Rivera had a throw of 17.55 meters (57 ft., 7 in.). Rivera's throw was just shy of his 17.62 meter (57 ft., 9 3/4 in.) mark from last week that broke the school record.
In the shot put, junior
Brandon Vuolo was 10th with a mark of 13.32 meters (43 ft., 8 1/2 in.) while sophomore
Matt Battaglia was 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.3. In the 60-meter prelims, sophomore
Richardson Pierre was 11th with a time of :7.41 seconds.
In the women's meet, Brockport took first with 109 total points. Oneonta was second with 84 points and St. Lawrence was third with 76 points. Nazareth recorded 34 points for seventh place out of the 14 teams.
Senior
Michaela Gildemeyer took fourth place in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:20.92. The Golden Flyers' 4x200 relay team, consisting of
Taylor Pierson,
Alex Walker,
Amanda Entress, and
Sibongile Chisi, placed fifth with a time of 1:52.45. Chisi and Pierson each recorded seventh-place finishes in field events. Chisi was seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 2.9 meters (9 ft., 6 1/4 in.), and Pierson had a mark of 5.26 meters (17 ft., 3 1/4 in.) in the long jump despite five fouls. Freshman
Samantha Goble added a point in the 400-meter dash with an eighth-place time of 1:04.05.
Entress added a 10th-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.35 meters (33 ft., 11 1/2 in.). Senior
Kate Durr was 13th in the high jump with a mark of 1.4 meters (4 ft., 7 in.). In the 60-meter prelims, Walker was 14th with a time of 8.44 seconds.
The Golden Flyers are in action again January 31st when Nazareth travels to Ithaca.
