Tim Zyburt and
Grant Levermore combined for 27 kills Saturday to lifted ninth-ranked Nazareth to a four-set victory over visiting Marymount in the Golden Flyers' season opening match in men's volleyball. Scores were 25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 25-12.
Zyburt totaled a match-high 16 kills in 27 attempts for a .407 hitting percentage, while Levermore had 11 kills with just two hitting errors in 25 swings for a .360 hitting percentage. Senior

Jake Kemp shared setting duties for the Golden Flyers and combined for 42 assists. Kemp had 23 and McDonagh 19.
Nazareth hit a tidy .327 as a team with 51 kills overall in 104 attempts. Senior
Luke Lawatsch added nine kills and junior
Josh Hieb had five in six attempts.
Zyburt had five of his kills on six swings in the opening set as Nazareth won easily. He added six more in the second set. Nazareth led early in the third set before Marymount rallied to tie the set at 23-23. A service error by Levermore and a kill by Marymount's Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz forced a fourth set.
Nazareth then dominated the fourth set as Lawatsch, Levermore and Zyburt each produced two kills. Nazareth competes again Friday at the SUNYIT Tournament in Utica. The Golden Flyers play D'Youville and Elms in Friday matches with play resuming Saturday.
