ResultsROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Nazareth women's and men's track and field teams opened the semester on Saturday at RIT for the Tiger Invitational. It was the Golden Flyers' first meet since December 6th. Each of the Nazareth teams turned in seventh-place performances. Seniors Hannah Brackley and Michaela Gildemeyer won the 400-meter and 500-meter dash events, respectively. In the field events, junior Taylor Pierson placed first in the long jump with a leap of 5.38 meters (17 ft., 7 3/4 in.). In the men's meet, junior
Tom Sippie won the 400-meter dash, and junior
Luis Rivera broke his school record in the weight throw with a mark of 17.62 meters (57 ft., 9 3/4 in.). His previous school record was 16.24 meters (53 ft., 3 1/2 in.).
In the men's meet, Oneonta claimed the men's title by amassing 172 points. Hamilton was second with 81 points, and RIT was third with 70.5 points. The Golden Flyers' 44 points placed them seventh of the 14 teams.
Following Sippie (:49.7) in the 400-meter dash was freshman
Nick LaBarbera, who was third with a time of :51.86. In the 500 event, sophomore
Matt Battaglia also recorded a third-place finish with a time of 1:07.74. Sophomore
Jacob Murray added two additional points in the event with a seventh-place finish (1:09.76).
In the weight throw, Rivera's mark qualified him for the ECAC meet as he surpassed the standard of 15.35 meters. Junior
Brandon Vuolo was eighth in the event with a mark of 13.75 meters (45 ft., 1 1/2 in.), and sophomore
Randle Pierre was 13th with a mark of 12.28 meters (40 ft., 3 1/2 in.).
Nazareth's men's relay teams combined for 11 points with the 4x200-meter team finishing first with a time of 1:33.77 and the 4x400 team finishing eighth with a time of 3:40.43.
Oneonta won the women's meet with 123.5 total points. Geneseo finished second with 115 points, and Roberts Wesleyan was third with 77 points. The Golden Flyers tallied 54.5 points to take seventh of 14 teams.
Brackley finished her 400 with a time of 1:00.52, and Gildemeyer crossed the line with a time of 1:20.93. Following Gildemeyer, freshman Samantha Goble was second with a time of 1:21.72, and freshman Andrea Larnard was 10th with a time of 1:27.00. Gildemeyer added a 10th-place finish in the 1000-meter event after crossing the finish line with a time of 3:18.07.
In addition to Pierson's performance in the long jump, classmate Amanda Entress was third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.53 meters (34 ft., 6 1/2 in.), and senior Kate Durr was seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.45 meters (4 ft., 9 in.). In the pole vault, senior Sibongile Chisi recored a ninth-place performance (2.0 meters; 9 ft., 6 1/4 in.).
The Golden Flyers 4x400 and 4x200 teams also recorded points. The 4x400 team tallied eight points with its second-place finish (4:15.4) while the 4x200 team recorded one point with its eighth-place finish (1:55.48).
The Golden Flyers are in action again January 23rd and 24th when they compete at the Brockport Multi and Invitational meet.
