ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth and Rochester battled to a scoreless draw in non-conference women's soccer action Tuesday at Fauver Stadium. The game was stopped prior to the customary overtime periods due to a lightning strike. Therefore the game officially ends in a tie. Nazareth is 7-2-1 overall, while UR's record moved to 4-3-3.

Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday at Elmira at 12 p.m.

Even though no goals were scored through 90 minutes of regulation play, Nazareth had plenty of scoring opportunities, including three of its four corner kicks in the last five minutes. The Golden Flyers also generated nine of their 13 shots in the second half and Yellowjackets' senior goalkeeper Aubrey Jaicks was called upon to make nine saves. Following a Nazareth corner kick in the 86th minute, Elizabeth Howell generated a shot that was redirected over the goal by Jaicks. That resulted in another corner kick by Courtney Malia, who delivered the ball to Brianna Vibbard, whose shot toward the center of the goal was deflected again over the crossbar by Jaicks.

"We felt like we had the momentum at the end of regulation," said Nazareth Coach Gail Mann. "We were lookinig forward to overtime."

That never happened, though, as a lightning strike forced the teams to their respective locker rooms. After a 10-minute wait that included a glimpse of an unfavorable weather radar screen, the game was halted.

The Golden Flyers got the first solid chance 13:30 in when Vibbard slipped a pass up to Howell who got past Jaicks, but the play was well defended by a Rochester back and the senior's shot sailed wide left.

Ten minutes later, UR's first opportunity to get on the board was presented by the midfield combo of Lauren Pien and Kim Stagg.  Pien sent up a great service from the right wing, but Stagg was well covered by a Nazareth defender breaking up the play.

In the 37th minute, Jaicks came out of the net again and was beaten to the ball by freshman Rachel Dise, but her shot slid just wide of the net.  The teams headed to the locker room deadlocked at 0-0 through 45 minutes.

52 minutes into the game, the Golden Flyers Vibbard and Howell executed a strong give-and-go to break open along the left wing, but Howell's shot again went high of the Yellowjacket net.

Rochester's Stagg nearly found the net in the 69th minute off a long volley that took a high bounce in the box, but she couldn't control her shot and it sailed high.

In the Nazareth net, sophomore Allison Dobles made one save to gain her second career shutout. Nazareth outshot Rochester 13-8 overall and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Rochester had won five of the previous six meetings with the Golden Flyers and leads the series 13-5-4. The teams also played to scoreless ties in 2006 and 2007.
