Alfred outlasts Nazareth in men's soccer, 5-4

ALFRED, N.Y. -- Host Alfred scored twice in the final nine minutes of regulation time Saturday to rally past Nazareth, 5-4, in a wild Empire 8 Cofnerence men's soccer match at Yunevich Stadium.

Nazareth lost for the fifth straight time and dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference games. Alfred improved to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8.

Alfred had built a 3-1 leadearly in the second half before Nazareth rallied to score three goals in a 16-minute span to take a 4-3 advantage. Alfred's Ivan Capitan-Carro, however, scored both Alfred goals in the closing minutes to enable the Saxons to regain the lead and claim the win. His first goal came in the 82nd minute. He scored again at 84:06.

Ramez Al-Hebshi scored in the first half as Nazareth trailed 2-1. A goal by Alfred's Richard Lander in the 57th minute made the score 3-1. Sophomore Dylan Toscano scored for Nazareth just two minutes later, then James Wheeler scored off a pass from Mitch Fors just six minutes after that to even the score at 3-3. Brendan Miles then delivered his second goal of the season in the 73rd minute to give Nazareth its first lead of the game at 4-3.

Alfred finished with a 22-11 advantage in shots, while corner kicks were even at 4-4. Diego Abreu played goal for Nazareth and made 10 saves.

Nazareth is home Tuesday for a non-conference game against Geneseo at 4:30 p.m.
