Updated statsITHACA, N.Y. -- Host Ithaca dominated Nazareth in an Empire 8 field hockey match Saturday. The Bombers used a pair of first-half goals to defeat the Golden Flyers, 2-0.
Nazareth dropped to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference games. Ithaca improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the Empire 8.
Caitlin O'Brien scored both Ithaca goals in the first half and that two-goal margin held up the rest of the way as the Bombers outshot Nazareth 19-2 overall. The first goal came in the fifth minute off an assist from Olivia Salindong. Less than 12 minutes later, O'Brien scored again with an assist from Colleen Keegan-Twombly.
Both Nazareth shots came in the first half -- one by
Maggie Muzio and one by
Maggie Namy. Nazareth also managed only one penalty corner in the game and that came early in the second half.
Senior
Shannon Winney played all 70 minutes in goal for the Golden Flyer and made nine saves. Katie Lass had two saves for Ithaca.
Nazareth is home Tuesday for a non-conference game against Cortland at 4 p.m. The Golden Flyers resume their Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday at home against Utica at 12 p.m.
