Nazareth defeats Clarkson, 3-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y.- Nazareth defeated visiting Clarkson with a score of 3-1 in a non-conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon. Graduate student Christine Belding, senior Tori Ryan, and freshman Paige Sullivan each scored one goal for the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth improves to a 5-1 overall record and Clarkson drops to 2-3 overall.

The Golden Flyers scored their first goal with 14:27 minutes of play remaining in the first half off a corner kick taken by junior Courtney Malia. Malia's kick directed straight toward senior Christine Belding for a header that put the ball in the back of the net. Only 1:33 minutes later, Nazareth's second goal was scored by senior Tori Ryan off a rebound from junior Danielle Wilkin's shot that forced a diving save from Clarkson's goalie. The Golden Flyers maintained their two-goal lead through the end of the first half.  

Sixteen minutes into the second half, Nazareth improved to a three-goal lead over Clarkson. Sophomore Michaela Soules passed the ball back from inside the penalty box to freshman Paige Sullivan who took the long shot from outside the eighteen box, scoring her first career goal for the Golden Flyers.
With just over five minutes remaining in regulation time, a loose ball deflected off a Nazareth defender was gathered by Clarkson's Nikki Craft at the top of the box who took the shot that found its way in the back of the net.

The Golden Flyers finished with a 17-7 advantage in shots, and Dunphy tallied two saves to earn the victory. Clarkson's goalie, Kim Kenline earned a total of 7 saves. Nazareth ended with a 9-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

The Golden Flyers' next game will be played Saturday, September 20th at RIT, 4 p.m. kick off time.
