Nazareth wins first Empire 8 game against Houghton, 3-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y--The Nazareth College field hockey team was back in action Saturday, taking on the Houghton Highlanders. The Golden Flyers defeated the Highlanders 3-2 improving their record to 4-2 overall, and 1-0 in the Empire 8 Conference.

Late in the first half, Nazareth's first goal was scored by junior Maggie Muzio, unassisted. In the second half, Kelsi Barnholt scored her first goal of the season for the Flyers with the assist from Muzio. The Highlanders were able to tie the game at 2-2 late in the second half with goals scored by Hannah Zgrablich and Kelsi Ashley. In the last five minutes of the game, sophomore Kailee Coleman scored her first goal of the season to bring the Flyers to victory.

Houghton had two penalty corners and a total of five shots during the game. The Highlanders' goalie, Elizabeth Pisker, was credited 14 saves. The Golden Flyers had a total of 19 shots and had 12 penalty corner opportunitites. Senior Shannon Winney encountered four shots on goal and was credited with two saves for the Flyers.

Nazareth's next game is scheduled for September 14th at Morrisville. Their next home game will be September 16th when the Golden Flyers will host William Smith.
