ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's soccer team shut out an opponent for the second time in two days to begin the 2014 season with a 2-0 record. The Golden Flyers defeated visiting Oneonta 1-0 in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon for their second victory. The Red Dragons, ranked 25th nationally, fell to 0-2 after the loss. Oneonta also fell to 21st-ranked RIT on Friday.

Junior Ashley Paris scored the game's lone goal in the 41st minute of regulation as she converted a direct kick from about 25 yards away to put the Golden Flyers on the board. Paris' shot was over goalie Kelly Murphy's head and just under the crossbar.

The Red Dragons' best opportunity to score came early in the contest when Nazareth goalie Allison Dobles left the goal line to collect a loose ball. The ball was redirected around her toward the Nazareth net, but the Golden Flyers' defenders were on the goal line blocking the ball from crossing the line. With players from both teams kicking at the ball, Dobles was able to retreat and smother the ball. Dobles finished with two saves in the first half and four saves in the second to earn the shutout.

Murphy played the opening 45 minutes in Oneonta's net and took the loss. She finished with five saves and one goal against. Rory Stark relieved Murphy in the second 45 minutes and was credited with two saves.

The Golden Flyers finished with an 11-10 edge in total shots, and the Red Dragons held a slim 6-5 advantage in corner kick chances. Oneonta had four corner kick opportunities in the final five minutes the Red Dragons added offensive pressure. Nazareth's defense, however, allowed only one shot during the stretch, which came in the final seconds. Oneonta's tandem of Jessica Lyden and Kayla Ceschini, who combined for 11 goals in 2013, were held to two total shots.

The Golden Flyers look to extend their winning streak in a non-conference game at Geneseo on Thursday, September 4th.
