BoxBROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's field hockey team opened the 2014 campaign with a 2-0 non-conference victory over host Brockport on Saturday afternoon. Senior
Sibongile Chisi put the Golden Flyers on the board in the opening minutes of regulation, and junior
Gabrielle DiSanto added an insurance goal with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, senior
Shannon Winney thwarted a penalty stroke opportunity by Nickole Morgan to preserve Nazareth's initial one-goal lead. Saturday's contest was the season-opener for both teams.
Chisi, who scored a team-high six goals during the 2013 season, needed only 6:08 to score her first goal of 2014. Chisi collected a rebound and converted the scoring chance to provide Nazareth with the early advantage. Junior

DiSanto ended the drought at the 59:04 mark to add an insurance goal with 10:56 to play in regulation. DiSanto slapped the ball out of midair and into the Golden Eagles goal for her first-career goal.
On the defensive end of the field, Winney stymied Brockport's attack with 11 saves, including eight in the second half to protect Nazareth's lead. It was Winney's third-career shutout. The Golden Flyers held the Golden Eagles to only three shots in the opening half before Brockport increased its pressure in the second 35 minutes.
