Nazareth finishes 7th at Empire 8 golf

HERSHEY, Pa. -- The Empire 8 Conference Championships in men's golf concluded Saturday with Nazareth placing seventh among eight teams in the four-round competition at Hershey Park. The Golden Flyers posted a team score of 334 Saturday for a four-round total of 1329. The first two rounds were contested last September at Yahnundasis Country Club. The competition picked up again Friday and concluded Saturday.

St. John Fisher, paced by E8 Player of the Year Thad Wier, won the team title with a 1204 stroke total, easily outdistancing runner-up Scranton (1230). Stevens (1285) was third, followed by Elmira (1288), Susquehanna (1292), Moravian (1302), Nazareth (1329) and Utica (1406). Fisher had three of the top four individual finishers as Corey Haas and Jogan Cuny joined Wier as first-team all-conference performers.

Junior James Sergeant fired an 80 Saturday on the par-71 layout to finish in 11th place individually, one place shy of a spot on the all-conference second team. He had a four-round total of 314, 11 strokes behind Wier.

Junior Andrew Lund and senior Nick Polito shot 85 and 87 respectively to finished tied for 25th place with four-round scores of 343. Sophomore Sean de Herder had 91 Saturday to finish in 32nd place with a 369 total. Freshman Jonathan Gerken and junior Dan Strack also competed for Nazareth and had scores of 82 and 93 respectively.
