Nazareth sneaks past William Smith, 9-8

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Nazareth Golden Flyers sneak past the William Smith Herons 9-8 in a women's non-conference lacrosse game Saturday afternoon. Nazareth is 1-0 overall. The Herons fall to 0-3 following the loss.

The Golden Flyers opened up their season on the road against the William Smith Herons Saturday afternoon. Nazareth earned the victory when junior Brooke Sullivan scored on a free position shot with 0:01 left in the game. Sullivan had a team high three goals for the Golden Flyers. Teammate Kelsey McNaboe added two goals for Nazareth and Carly Gates, Amy McIntosh, Brianna Mancini, and Jamie Martin each earned one goal in the victory.

In the first half, Nazareth outshot William Smith 13-10, leading 6-5 at the end of the half. Senior goalkeeper Tara Prosak had four total saves for the Golden Flyers.

Play continued to be tough in the second half. Nazareth was outshot by William Smith 9-7, but the Golden Flyers were able to hold off the Herons in the last second of play to earn the win. Prosak had two saves in the second half for a game total of six saves.

The Golden Flyers are back in action Monday March 10th in Clermont, Florida against the Stevenson Mustangs at 7 p.m.
