CANTON, N.Y. -- Junior
Michaela Gildemeyer posted a personal-best time of 2:20.15 to finish first in the 800-meter run Saturday as the Golden Flyers' men's and women's track and field teams completed the second day of competition at the NYSCTC meet at St. Lawrence.
Nazareth finished in seventh place in the women's competition with 47 points. St. Lawrence finished first in the 12-team event with 201.50 points. Nazareth also performed well in the men's competition, placing 11th with 26 points. St. Lawrence was first with 150 points.
Gildemeyer earned 10 team points for the Golden Flyers as she crossed the finish line more than four seconds ahead of her closest pursuer. In addition to Gildemeyer, junior
Hannah Brackley finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of :59.65, a tick slower than her time of :59.53 from the Bomber Invitational two weeks ago. Brackley also set a school record in the 200-meter dash with a seventh-place time of :26.33.
Sophomore
Taylor Pierson followed up her first-place finish in Friday's long jump with an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.20 seconds. She ran 8.13 in the prelims. Gildemeyer, Pierson and Brackley were joined by junior
Sibongile Chisi to finish fifth in the 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 4:08.71.
In the men's competition, sophomore Luis Rivera broke his own school record yet again in the weight throw with a second-place toss of 16.24 meters (53 feet, 3 1.2 inches). That was more than an inch farther than his effort from last weekend's Orange and Brown Invitational at RIT.
Sophomore Khiary Gayle finished seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 13.37 meters (43 feet, 10 1/2 inches) and the 4 x 800-meter relay team of Zach Lafaver, Matt Fedrizzi, Jake Lafaver and Jacob Murray was seventh in 8:13.49.
The Lafaver brothers also finished third and seventh respectively in the 800-meter run. Jake posted his best time of the indoor season with a 1:55.53, just a couple of ticks behind first-place finisher Harrison Sloan of St. Lawrence (1:55.27). Zach's time was 1:59.84.
