RADNOR, PA -- Nazareth sophomore Troy Haefele tied Saturday's game at seven goals apiece with three seconds remaining in the first half, however, sixth-ranked Cabrini scored five straight goals in the third quarter to take control of Saturday's non-conference men's lacrosse game. The host Cavaliers outscored the Golden Flyers 13-4 in the second stanza to earn the victory. Seniors Collin Clark and Brian Wright and freshman Hunter Burdick each had two goals for Nazareth.

With the loss, the Golden Flyers slip to 2-3 overall. With the win, Cabrini remains undefeated and improves to 6-0, which is the Cavaliers' best start in school history. Saturday was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

After Haefele's game-tying goal to end the opening half, the momentum swung in Cabrini's favor 3:26 into the third quarter when freshman Joe Fahy and senior Chris Aycock were each whistled for a penalty, giving Cabrini a two-man advantage. The Cavaliers' Damian Sobieski scored just moments into the man-up opportunity. Cabrini added four additional goals over the next 10 minutes to claim a 12-7 lead. With 10 seconds to play in the period, Aycock found the back of the Cavaliers' net to cut Nazareth's deficit to four goals heading into the final quarter. Sophomore Luke Wooters assisted on Aycock's goal.

Cabrini's defense and goalies held Wooters, who is the Golden Flyers' leading scorer with 14 goals in Nazareth first four games, scoreless, although he recorded a team-high eight shots. The last contest in which Wooters was held without a goal was 12 games ago in Nazareth's 12-10 victory over Alfred on April 16th. Wooters scored five times against 18th-ranked Bowdoin on Wednesday, and he was the reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week.

In the fourth quarter, Cabrini outscored Nazareth 8-3 to pull away. Senior Trevar Haefele and Clark scored midway through the stanza for the Golden Flyers. Haefele scored on the man-up after receiving a pass from Clark, while Clark's goal was unassisted. The back-to-back goals cut the Cavaliers' lead to 15-10 with 6:22 remaining in regulation. Burdick added an unassisted score with 39 seconds to play.

The Golden Flyers scored the first two goals of the game to give Nazareth the early lead. Burdick broke the scoreless tie with 7:26 to play in the opening period. About five minutes later, Wright scored his first goal of the game. The Cavaliers answered quickly with a pair of goals in under a minute, but Wright's second goal of the game reclaimed Nazareth's early lead as he scored with nine seconds left in the quarter. Junior Will Fallo was credited with the assist on Wright's second goal.

Cabrini opened the second quarter with a torrid offensive attack as the Cavaliers scored four goals in just 3:45. Sobieski's man-up goal 30 seconds into the quarter started the run. The Golden Flyers' freshman Andre Bond scored in the middle of the four-goal run to temporarily tie the contest at four goals apiece. Following Cabrini's run, Nazareth responded with three of the final four goals to tie the score 7-7 at the break. Clark and freshman Nick Arnold scored before Troy Haefele's goal in the final seconds of the half. Burdick was credited with an assist on Arnold's goal.

With their goals, the Haefele brothers each have eight goals on the season to rank second on the team in goals scored. Aycock is third (six goals) followed by Clark (five goals).

Sobieski finished with a game-high five goals for Cabrini, which ranks him second on the team with 18 goals. Corey Elmer and Anthony DiSanzo each tallied three goals Saturday and rank first and fifth on the team in the category with 21 goals and 11 goals, respectively.

Sophomore Scott Brown played all 60 minutes in Nazareth's goal and recorded eight saves, including six in the first half. Hank Altschuler started in net for Cabrini and allowed seven goals and made three saves in the opening 30 minutes. He was relieved in the second half by Austin Marshall, who recorded a game-high 10 saves and allowed four goals to earn the win.

Cabrini finished with a 36-35 edge in shots and a 34-26 advantage in ground balls collected. Junior Drew Simoneau won 15-31 faceoffs and scooped a game-high 11 ground balls for the Golden Flyers. Simoneau entered the contest ranking 18th nationally in faceoff win percentage (0.711) and second nationally in ground balls collected (14.3 per game).

Nazareth resumes its challenging road-trip next Friday and Saturday in Maryland with a game at fifth-ranked Stevenson on Friday and 12th-ranked Lynchburg on Saturday. The Golden Flyers return to Nazareth on March 26th to open their conference schedule against Alfred.
