Nazareth Runs At RIT Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's track and field teams were in action again on Friday evening at the Orange and Brown Invitational, hosted by RIT. Sophomore Taylor Pierson and junior Hannah Brackley each won an event for the women's team, while senior Jake Lafaver was second in the 800-meter run, and sophomore Luis Rivera was fourth in the weight throw. Pierson and Rivera each broke their own school records.

In the men's meet, Lafaver's second-place time in the 800 meters was 1:56.26. Felipe Yanez of Buffalo State won the event with a time of 1:54.18. Additionally, senior Zack Lafaver and freshman Jacob Murray also recorded top-10 finishes in the 500-meter dash. Lafaver crossed the line sixth in 1:09.02, and Murray finished ninth with a time of 1:09.89. Senior Matt Fedrizzi added a 15th-place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:38.62.

In field events, Nazareth was led by Rivera, who was fourth in the weight throw with a school-record mark of 15.88 meters (52 ft., 1 1/4 in.). Classmates Brandon Vuolo and Khiary Gayle were the Golden Flyers' top performers in the shot put and triple jump, respectively. Vuolo recorded a mark of 13.05 meters (42 ft.,9 3/4 in.) in the shot, and Gayle had a mark of 12.67 meters (41 ft., seven in.) in the triple jump.

On the women's side, Pierson's first-place event was the long jump as she finished with a school-record mark of 5.73 meters (18 ft., 9 3/4 in.) and she also added a ninth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of :27.39.

Brackley placed first in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:18.95, followed by classmate Michaela Gildemeyer in second with a time of 1:19.57.

On the 4x200-meter relay, Pierson and Brackley were joined by junior Sibongile Chisi and sophomore Amanda Entress as the foursome placed second with a school-record time of 1:48.01. Chisi also added an eighth-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of three meters (9 ft., 10in.).

Other top performers on the women's side included sophomore Gabrielle LeBihan, who was seventh in the mile (5:21.91), freshman Emily Thompson, who was 12th in the mile (5:27.54), and sophomore Blair Meeson, who was 11th in the 5,000-meter run (20:25.44). Junior Kate Durr also added a ninth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.50 meters (4 ft., 11 in.).

Nazareth is in action again February 28th and March 1st when the Golden Flyers travel to St. Lawrence for the NY CTC Championships.
