ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sophomore
Luis Rivera broke his own school record in the 35-pound weight throw Saturday as the Golden Flyers resumed their indoor track and field season at Ithaca's Bomber Invitational.
Rivera finished in fifth place with a toss of 15.76 meters (51 feet, 8 1/2 inches), more than 15 inches farther than his previous best of 50 feet, 5 1/4 inches, set in December at RIT. Senior
Zack Lafaver finished 10th in the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 2:00.08.
In the women's meet, junior Hannah Brackley and sophomore Gabrielle Lebihan each bettered their own school records in the 400-meter dash and 3,000-meter run respectively.
Brackley finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of :59.53, marking the first time she has gone under one minute indoors. She improved upon her own school record time of 1:00.03, set Feb. 1 at the Empire 8 Conference meet also at Ithaca. Brackley also finished 11th in the 200-meter dash with a time of :27.07.
Lebihan placed second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:29.86, an improvement upon her previous school mark of 10:32.14 that she produced Jan. 25 at the Spire Open in Ohio.
Sophomore Taylor Pierson finished first in the long jump with a leap of 5.48 meters (17 feet, 11 3/4 inches), her second best jump of the indoor season and less than two inches shy of her school record of 18 feet, 1 inch, set last season.
Other strong performances included a fifth-place finish for junior Michaela Gildemeyer in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.81 and a ninth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run for freshman Emily Thompson, who shaved nearly 21 seconds off her previous best time with a clocking of 10:43.79.
Nazareth also finished seventh in the 4 x 200-meter relay with a time of 1:49.61. Sibongile Chisi, Amanda Entress, Pierson and Brackley competed in that event.
