ResultsITHACA, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's and men's track and field teams opened their season with school records at the Greg Page Relays at Cornell on Saturday. The meet included Division I athletes from Cornell, Syracuse, and Colgate. The women's 4 x 400-meter relay, consisting of freshmen
Samantha Goble and
Andrea Larnard and seniors
Michaela Gildemeyer and
Hannah Brackley broke the school record with a sixth-place finish in 4:08.46. The previous school record was 4:08.7, which was set in February 2013. Freshman
Nick LaBarbera broke the record in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:06.66. LaBarbera was sixth in the event. The previous school record was set in February 2013 by Jake Lafaver.
Brackley also nearly broke her own record in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:18.46, which fell only .16 of a second short of her 2013 school record. Goble finished in eighth-place in the event with a time of 1:21.25. Junior
Gabrielle LeBihan was sixth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:09.47, while sophomore
Jamie DiSalvo was 10th with a time of 20:12.55. Nazareth's distance medley relay team also recorded a top-10 finish as it placed seventh. The four-some of Gildemeyer, and freshmen
Sarah Williams, Larnard, and Kimberly Lovett finished with a time of 13:30.88.
In field events, senior
Sibongile Chisi fell just shy of tying her school record in the pole vault. She finished with a mark of three meters (9 ft., 10 in.) to place 13th. Freshman
Emily Soeder was eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters (5 ft., 1in). Entress and sophomore
Kelsey Hill each finished in the top-20 in the triple jump with 16th and 18-place finishes, respectively. Entress had a mark of 10.26 meters (33 ft., 8 in.), and Hill was recorded at 10.05 meters (32 ft., 11 3/4 in.). Freshman
Steevie Hill was the Golden Flyers' top performer in the weight throw with a 19th-place toss of 11.28 meters (37 ft., 1/4 in.).
The men's 4 x 400 team fell a few seconds shy of the school record (3:25.55), which is almost seven years old. LaBarbera, freshman
Martin Dearaway, sophomore
Matt Battaglia, and junior
Tom Sippie teamed to finish with a time of 3:28.57 to place sixth overall. Sippie added a 12th-place finish in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:07.32. In the 5000-meter run, freshman
Kevin Witt was fifth with a time of 16:55.59. Junior
Khiary Gayle was 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 13.18 meters (43 ft., 3 in.).
The Golden Flyers' distance medley team finished with a third-place time of 11:34.37. The relay was composed of Battaglia, Dearaway, freshman
Kristopher Newell, and sophomore
Jacob Murray.
After the semester break, Nazareth resumes action on January 17th at RIT.
