Updated StatsROCHESTER, NY - Visiting Utica outscored Nazareth 5-1 to remain undefeated in Empire 8 Conference field hockey with a 4-0 record, 9-1 overall. Nazareth drops to 2-3 in the Empire 8 and 6-7 overall.
Utica's Hannah Mackey scored her first of two goals just 6:29 into the game to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead. Nazareth's
Cathy Stahl tied things up at 19:20 after scoring off a penalty corner opportunity. Her goal was assisted by
Catherine Willard.
At 21:22 Utica's Nikki Kieffer scored an unassisted goal to put the Pioneers back on top, 2-1.
Becki Vivacqua extended Utica's lead converting on a penalty stroke opportunity which was awarded after Nazareth goalkeeper
Shannon Winney covered the ball while making a save. Chasity Eckert scored at 38:11 and Mackey scored her second goal at 63:29 to round out the scoring for the Pioneer's.
Winney finished with 14 saves and Utica's Kells Casey made one save in the contest which was a one-on-one with Nazareth's
Sibongile Chisi.
Isabel Wittmaack was also credited with a defensive save for the Golden Flyers.
The Pioneer's had an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners and out-shot Nazareth 27-2.
The Golden Flyers host Skidmore College Sunday at 2 pm.
