The game will be recorded as a tie for the 19th-ranked Golden Flyers and the eighth-ranked Herons. Sophomore
Allison Dobles amassed a career-high 11 saves for Nazareth, and it was her fifth shutout of the season.
Following the tie, the Golden Flyers stand at 12-3-2 overall. William Smith is 12-2-1 overall after Tuesday's tie.
Although neither team was able to find the back of the net, both teams had scoring chances. Just over five minutes into regulation, the Herons' Krista Longo hit the post following a corner kick opportunity. About 17 minutes later, Longo beat a pair of Nazareth defenders to have a one-on-one opportunity against Dobles. Dobles made a diving save and the ball bounced off the right post. Sophomore
Michaela Soules recorded Nazareth's first shot, roughly 27 minutes into the first, but goalie Nicole McGlinchy was able to corral it.
In the second half, the Golden Flyers recorded the first shot, which was by senior
Kaitlyn Sowyrda. It followed a corner kick from junior
Courtney Malia. Less than three minutes later, the Herons' MaryClaire Pelletier's attempt from 16 yards away hit the crossbar, which was followed by a shot wide by Longo. The Golden Flyers had a team save with roughly 30 minutes to play in regulation after Kara Shue's shot found its way past Dobles.
Nazareth's best scoring chance came in the first overtime session. In the 96th minute, graduate student
Christine Belding lifted a shot on goal and William Smith's goalie Nicole McGlinchy jumped and pushed the ball over the crossbar to deny the opportunity.Â
Soules had three shots, including two on goal, to lead Nazareth's offensive attack. Belding finished with one shot on goal while Sowyrda, Malia and junior
Danielle Wilkin each directed a shot toward the Herons' net. Belding and junior
Briana Vibbard lead the Golden Flyers in goals this season with seven goals apiece. Soules ranks first on the team in scoring with four goals and 10 assists.
Madeline Buckley entered Tuesday as William Smith's leading scoring threat with 10 goals and four assists. She had five shots, including two on goal, during Tuesday's contest. Longo recorded a game-high seven shots, including three on goal. Longo is tied with Brie Ruane for second on the team in goals as each player has found the back of the net six times. Ruane had five shots, including two on goal.
The Herons finished the game with a 25-7 advantage in total shots and a 9-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Dobles made three saves in the first overtime period and one in the second before the game was stopped. McGlinchy recorded two saves in the first overtime session.
Nazareth closes the regular season with a non-conference contest at Skidmore November 1st. The Golden Flyers begin action in the Empire 8 Tournament November 7th as the second seed behind 14th-ranked Ithaca. As the top-seed, the Bombers will host the tournament.
