Updated statsONEONTA, N.Y. -- Nazareth scored three goals in the first half and two in the second half to defeat Hartwick, 5-0, in Empire 8 field hockey action Saturday. The Golden Flyers improved to 8-10, 3-4 in the E8. Hartwick is 4-12, 2-5 in the E8.
Junior
Catherine Willard scored Nazareth's first four goals and now has 17 for the season, tying the single season scoring record. Kelly Flanagan also scored 17 goals in 2007.
Willard scored the first of her four goals unassisted 5:31 into the first half. Her second goal at 14:46, also unassisted was a hard shot from the right side. Willard scored again at 26:55 to give the Golden Flyers a 3-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, Willard scored unassisted at 63:41. Sophomore
Kristina Back scored the fifth goal for the Golden Flyers assisted by freshman
Kelsi Barnholt with just 13 seconds remaining in the second half.
Senior
Shannon Winney started for the Golden Flyers and made six saves and allowed no goals, her second shutout of the 2014 season.
Nazareth had a 13-11 shots on goal advantage and 6-5 penalty corner advantage.
Nazareth closes out its regular season schedule November 1st at Stevens with a 1p.m. start.
