Gabrielle LeBihan recorded school records in Nazareth's indoor track and field meet on Saturday. The Golden Flyers' men's and women's teams traveled to the SPIRE North Coast Open meet in Geneva, Ohio. In the men's competition, senior
Jake Lafaver placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.82.
In the men's field events, sophomore
Luis Rivera was fifth in the 35-pound weight throw with a throw of 14.84 meters (48 ft, 8 1/4 in.) while classmate
Khiary Gayle was seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 12.2 meters (40 ft., 3/10 in.). In the shot put, sophomore
Brandon Vuolo was ninth with a throw of 12.67 meters (41 ft., 6 41/50 in.).
Top performances for Nazareth on the track included a seventh-place finish for the Golden Flyers' 4x400-meter relay team of Jake and
Zack Lafaver and freshmen
Jenoy Merchant and
Matt Battaglia. The relay team finished in 3:34.96. In addition to
Jake Lafaver's 800-meter performance,
Zack Lafaver was 13th (2:00.83), and freshman
Jacob Murray was 20th (2:03.86).
In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore
Patrick Neureuter was eighth, and
Tom Lannon was ninth with times of 17:23.56 and 17:57.47, respectively. Also,
Richardson Pierre was 12th in the 60-meter dash with a time of :7.38 seconds, while senior
John O'Malley placed 21st in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.48 seconds.
Brackley placed fourth and broke her own record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.44, which beat her 2013 record by .29 seconds. In the 200-meter event, Brackley claimed the school record by .01 seconds from teammat
e Taylor Pierson. Brackley's time was :26.75 seconds, and she placed eighth overall. Pierson was 16th with a time of :27.34. LeBihan's eighth-place 3,000-meter time of 10:32.14 was nearly 35 seconds faster than the prior school record, which has been held by Laura Snepenger since 2006. Freshman
Emily Thompson finished in 17th-place with a time of 11:04.34.
Junior
Michaela Gildemeyer recorded a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.26, which was her fastest indoor time in the event. The Golden Flyers' 4x400-meter relay of Brackley, Pierson, Gildemeyer, and sophomore
Kenzi Coon was fifth with a time of 4:17.04.
In the 5,000-meter run, freshman
Jamie DiSalvo and sophomore
Blair Meeson recorded back-to-back finishes with DiSalvo placing fifth and Meeson placing sixth. DiSalvo finished with a time of 20:20.27, and Meeson had a time of 20:59.49.
Nazareth also collected top-10 finishes in several field events. Freshman
Kelsey Hill was third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.27 meters (33 ft, 8 1/3 in.), and sophomore
Amanda Entress was seventh with a leap of 9.86 meters (32 ft, 4 1/5 in). In the pole vault, junior
Sibongile Chisi was sixth with a mark of 3.05 meters (10 ft, 4/5 in.). Freshman
Anna Bertrand and junior
Kate Durr each competed in the high jump. Both girls finished with a mark of 1.47 meters (4 ft, 9 7/8 in.).
Nazareth is in action again next Saturday, February 1, when the Golden Flyers travel to Ithaca for the Empire 8 Championships.
