ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The women's and men's track and field teams were in action again at the RIT Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Taylor Pierson fell just shy of breaking her own record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.2 seconds after she set a time of 8.18 seconds last week. Similarly in the men's meet, sophomore
Luis Rivera recorded a mark of 14.42 meters (41 ft, 1 23/32 in,) in the 35-pound weight throw after setting a school record of 15.37 meters last week.
No team scoring was kept, but many Golden Flyers turned in top performances.
In the men's meet, senior
Jake Lafaver was first in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:09.51. The race had three Nazareth runners place in the top-10 as freshman
Matt Battaglia was fifth (1:11.15) and senior Zach Lafaver was 10th (1:12.27). Freshman
Richardson Pierre placed eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.38 seconds. Senior
Matt Fedrizzi also recorded a top-10 track finish as he finished ninth in the mile with a time of 4:34.11. Sophomore
Clement Mutambo, who was 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.64, was another top performer on the track.
The Golden Flyers' relay team, consisting of Jake and Zach Lafaver, Battaglia, and frehsman
Jenoy Merchant were fourth in the 100-meter relay as they finished with a time of 3:38.89.
In the field events, sophomore
Brandon Vuolo claimed fith in the shot put with a mark of 12.84 meters (42 ft, 1 1/2 in) while Rivera was sixth with his 14.42 meter throw in the 35-pound weight throw. Vuolo also recorded a throw of 12.61 meters (41 ft, 4 in) in the weight throw, which placed him 14th.
Additionally, Pierre had an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.35 meters (20 ft, 10 in). Sophomore
Khiary Gayle was 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.19 meters (39 ft, 11 59/64 in).
In the women's meet, juniors
Hannah Brackley and
Michaela Gildemeyer finished first and second in the 500-meter dash with times of 1:22.12 and 1:22.54, respectively. Sophomore
Gabrielle LeBihan was second in the mile run with a time of 5:23 while frehsman
Emily Thompson was ninth (5:40.97), sophomore
Blair Meeson was 21st (6:03.12), and freshman
Jamie DiSalvo was 22nd (6:03.57.
Pierson's 60-meter time of 8.2 seconds put her in third-place in the event. Nazareth's 1600-meter relay, consisting of juniors
Kate Durr and
Allison Wean, sophomore Kenzie Coon, and freshman
Alex Walker placed seventh with a time of 4:36.14. Durr also turned in a 13th-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:08.16), and Wean added a 23rd-place finish in the 200-meter event (29.39).
In field events, freshman
Kelsey Hill was third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.33 meters (33 ft, 10 11/16 in) and was 13th in the long jump with a mark of 4.72 meters (15 ft, 5 53/64 in). Sophomore
Amanda Entress also placed well in the triple jump, finishing in seventh-place with a mark of 9.65 meters (31 ft, 7 59/64 in). Junior
Sibongile Chisi was sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 2.85 meters (9 ft, 4 13/64 in). Senior
Jessica Hogan placed 15th in the 20-pound weight throw (10.84 meters; 35 ft, 7 in) and freshman
Emily Ross was 20th in the shot put (8.89 meters, 29 ft, 2 in).
The Golden Flyers are scheduled to travel to the Spire North Coast Open in Geneva, Ohio in their next meet on Saturday, January 25th.
