Oswego outlasts Nazareth, 2-1

ROCHESTER, NY - The visiting Oswego State Lakers scored the first two goals of the game and held on to defeat Nazareth 2-1 in a non-conference field hockey match-up.  The Lakers earned their first win of the season to improve to 1-2 while the Golden Flyers fall to 0-2.

Rachel Johnston scored just 12:27 into the first half off an assist from Ashley Fiorille to give Oswego the early 1-0 lead.  The Lakers out-shot Nazareth 7-1 in the first half and 11-5 in the game.  Johnston scored her second goal of the game at 46:23 off an assist from Lisa O'Callaghan to give Oswego a 2-0 lead.

Nazareth had a couple of great scoring opportunities mid-way through the second half but Magill Woodruff was not able to connect on the crossing passes. Sibongile Chisi scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Maggie Muzio with just 1:57 minutes remaining in regulation to pull Nazareth within one, 2-1.  The Golden Flyers gained offensive possession at the restart, but ran out of time.

Shannon Winney finished with seven saves for the Golden Flyers and Grace Lombardi was credited with one save.  Hannah Weitzel was also credited with a defensive save in the first half for Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers are home for another non-conference game on Wednesday, September 11 at 4 pm against The College at Brockport.
