ALFRED, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's soccer team defeated Alfred 6-0 in Saturday's Empire 8 Conference soccer game. Junior
Olivia Derleth scored two goals and added one assist to lead the Golden Flyers' attack. Sophomores
Elizabeth Howell and
Emily McGaffic, junior
Anne Czelusniak, and
Jessica Barden also scored their first goals of the season.
With the victory, Nazareth improves to 4-1-2 overall and 1-0 in conference contests. The Saxons fell to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in Empire 8 games.
Howell opened the Golden Flyers' scoring 5:09 into regulation after receiving a pass from Derleth. Czelusniak scored an unassisted goal about 13 minutes later, and Derleth scored her first goal of the game at the 25:26 mark to give Nazareth the three-goal advantage.
In the second half, McGaffic opened the scoring just 1:18 into the second stanza. Malia was credited with an assist on McGaffic's goal. Derleth's second goal came in the 61st minute.
Jessica Barden closed out the Golden Flyers' scoring in the 80th minute after receiving a pass junior

Freshman
Mackenzie Dunphy earned her first-career shutout in her first-career start. Dunphy, however, was not forced to make a save as Nazareth's defense did not allow Alfred's offense a shot on goal. Samijo Scheer finished with 12 saves for the Saxons.
The Golden Flyers finished with overwhelming advantages in total shots (26-2, including 19-1 in the second half) and corner kicks (8-1). Nazareth was also whistled for 11 offsides as the Golden Flyers continually attacked.
Nazareth hosts RIT in a non-conference on Wednesday, September 25th at 4 p.m.
