ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior Ryan Foley opened the scoring for the host Golden Flyers in Sunday's non-conference men's soccer game between Swarthmore and Nazareth. The Garnet evened the score midway through the first half, then scored twice in the second half to secure the 3-1 victory.

With the loss, the Golden Flyers fall to 2-3 overall. Nineteenth-ranked Swarthmore remained undefeated and improved to 4-0-1 overall with the victory.

Foley scored less than seven minutes into the contest following a scramble in front of the Garnet goal. Senior Jimmy Gaffney was credited with an assist after he was able to slide the ball to Foley. It was Foley's fourth goal of the season.

Over the next few minutes after Foley's goal, the Golden Flyers had a pair of shots, but senior Simon Mounsdon's attempt was blocked and Foley's shot went high.

The Golden Flyers' defense kept Swarthmore off the board following a long shot by the Garnet at the 23:19 mark of the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Nate Ripic left his line to punch away the ball. The ball, however, was deflected past Ripic and bounced toward the Nazareth goal. The Golden Flyer defender alertly retreated and popped the ball over the crossbar before it crossed the line.

Swarthmore managed to tie the game at the 30:40 mark following a shot by Jack Momeyer. Momeyer's shot from just outside the box glanced off a defender and redirected away from Ripic. Wyatt McCall was credited with the assist.

Four minutes into the second half, the Garnet took its first lead of the game. Devon Baughen scored his team-leading fifth-goal of the season after the ball was volleyed by Noah Sterngold. Michael Superdock started the scoring opportunity with a pass into the box to Sterngold. Superdock and Sterngold each had an assist on the game-winning goal.

Wyatt McCall added an insurance goal with 4:30 remaining in regulation. After receiving a pass from Baughen, McCall dribbled past the Golden Flyers' defenders and slid a shot into the back of the Nazareth net.

The Garnet finished with a 17-13 advantage in total shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Ripic finished with a game-high eight saves, including five in the first half to keep the game tied. Peter Maxted finished with seven saves for Swarthmore to secure the victory.

Nazareth is in action again on September 17th when the Golden Flyers travel to Fredonia for a non-conference contest.
