POTSDAM, N.Y. -- It took nearly 10 minutes of extra time, but Nazareth's women's soccer team prevailed at Clarkson Saturday in a non-conference match as freshman Michaela Soules netted the game-winning score in a 1-0 Golden Flyer victory.

Soules' goal, her second of the weekend, enabled the Golden Flyers to go unbeaten (1-0-1) in their two-game trip the North Country. Soules also had the game-tying goal in Friday's 1-1 draw at St. Lawrence.

Saturday's goal ended nearly 100 minutes of frustration for the Golden Flyers, who had significant advantages in shots (22-4) and corner kicks (8-2). Junior Kaitlyn Sowyrda and senior Anne Czelusniak were credited with assists on the play.

"I'm just happy that we won," said Nazareth Coach Gail Mann. "It gets a little disheartening when you generate that much attack and can't score. I'm proud of the way we persevered."

Nazareth had numerous opportunties in each half, but came away empty as Clarkson goalkeeper Kim Kenline was called upon to make 13 saves. She made two saves in overtime on shots by Soules and Elizbaeth Howell. Senior Bethany Novak went the distance in goal for Nazareth and had two saves for her second shutout of the season. One of her saves came in overtime.

The winning goal came with time winding down in the first overtime. Sowyrda dribbled the ball up the wing and passed it to Czelusniak, who sent a through pass to Soules near the top of the box. Soules one-touched her way past a Clarkson defender to create space for a blast that was out of the reach of Kenline and settled in the upper left-hand corner of the goal.

The Golden Flyers return to action Saturday at Alfred at 5 p.m. for their Empire 8 Conference opener.
