HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The women's and men's cross country teams opened the 2013 season at the Houghton Short Course Invitational. Freshmen
Gabrielle LeBihan and
Emily Thompson paced the Golden Flyers in the women's 3,200-meter race with times of 12:37.79 and 12:41.33, respectively. In the men's five-kilometer race, senior
Matt Fedrizzi finished 13th overall with a time of 17:13.68.
In the women's race, St. John Fisher claimed the top spot with a total of 31 points. Nazareth was second with 41 points, followed by Houghton with 60.
Graduate student
Lauren Jamieson finished third for Nazareth with an eighth-place finish in 12:55.32. Jamieson was followed by senior
Lauren Heitzhaus in 13th-place with a time of 13:08.8. Freshman
Kelly Maloney (13:37.58), junior
Kassandra Lathrop (13:40.15), and freshman
Jamie DiSalvo (13:52.2) claimed places 17th-19th.
Junior
Meleana Spera placed 21st with a time of 13:58.26, followed by junior
Michaela Gildemeyer (14:12.22) and sophomore
Blair Meeson (14:13.05) in 23rd and 24th-place, respectively. Junior
Victoria Burchill (14:31.42) finished in 28th-place, and freshman
Alycia Andolina (15:12.2) rounded out the Nazareth runners with a 31st-place finish.
Spring Arbor claimed first in the men's race with a score of 20 points after taking eight of the first 12 places. Houghton edged Fisher for second with 64 points, while the Cardinals settled for third with 69 points. Nazareth placed fourth with 79 points.
In the men's race, freshman
Ethan Osborne followed Fedrizzi in 13th-place with a time 17:33.25. Sophomore
Patrick Neureuter was the Golden Flyers' third finisher in 18th place with a time of 17:51.07.
Freshmen
Jacob Murray (18:00.23) and
Matt Battaglia (18:01.81) placed 20th and 21st, respectively. Classmate Tommy Lannon placed 31st with a time of 19:01.26. Senior
Zack Lafaver was 36th with a time of 19:51.31.
The Golden Flyers run at the Yellowjacket Invitational in Genesee Valley Park on September 14th in their next meet.
