Jake Lafaver was Nazareth's lone individual winner Saturday as the Golden Flyers' track and field teams competed in the second day of competition at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championships at St. Lawrence University's Merrick-Pinkard Track.
The Golden Flyers finished 11th in the team standings despite the effort of Lafaver, whose time of 1:54.39 was his best outdoor clocking. Freshman
Brandon Vuolo finished eighth in the discus with a toss of 36.50 meters (119 feet, 9 inches). He also placed ninth in the shot put with 12.64 meters (41 feet, 5 3/4 inches).
In the women's meet, a first-place finish by sophomore
Hannah Brackley in the 400-meter dash was among the highlights as Nazareth finished in fifth place in the team standings with a two-day point total of 73.50. Ithaca finished first with 243 points. St. Lawrence (152.50), Rensselaer (90), Rochester (83) and Nazareth rounded out the top five.
Brackley broke her own school record with a time of :57.64 as she outkicked defending champion Becky Galasso (:57.96) of Rochester to the finish line. Brackley also finished second in the 200-meter dash (:25.77) and ran on Nazareth's second-place 4 x 100-meter relay that included sophomore
Sibongile Chisi, freshman
Taylor Pierson and senior
Keaghlan Morrissey.
Pierson followed up Friday's title in the long jump with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash (:12.72) and a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (:25.99).
Sophomore
Michaela Gildemeyer posted a personal-best time of 2:17.22 to place third in the 800-meter run and Morrissey broke her own week-old school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.77. Senior
Lauren Jamieson earned a team point in the 1,500-meter run by placing eighth in 4:58.98.
Nazareth also set a school record in the 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 4:01.44 with the group of
Katie Wyant, Gildemeyer, Morrissey and Brackley.
