FORT MEYERS, Fla. -- Nazareth dropped a pair of non-conference softball games Monday at Fort Meyers. The Golden Flyers surrendered seven runs in the last four innings as Olivet, Michigan rallied for a 9-4 win over the Golden Flyers in the first game. Then Wooster of Ohio scored three times in the eighth inning of a 5-2 victory in the second game.
Nazareth is 1-3 overall with two more games Tuesday. The Golden Flyers play Kenyon at 9 a.m., followed by Ohio Wesleyan at 11.
Against Olivet, Nazareth scored three times in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. Sophomores
Sophia Rhoades and
Nicole Bayona each had run-scoring singles in the frame. Roades went 4-for-4 overall and doubled home Nazareth's fourth run in the third inning as the Golden Flyers went up 4-2.
Olivet rallied to score two runs each in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings on 12 hits. Bayona took the loss on the pitcher's mound despite strikinig out seven. Junior
Kailey Ritch also had a pair of singles for the Golden Flyers.
In the second game, Nazareth and Wooster were tied 2-2 through seven innings, then Wooster plated three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Nazareth then was retired in order in the bottom half of the inning. Rhoades went 2-for-4 for Nazareth, including a run-scoring single in the fourth inning.
