BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Nazareth's dominating start to the 2013 men's volleyball season continued Sunday as the fifth-ranked Golden Flyers completed a three-set sweep of Bard at the United Volleyball Conference Crossover at Medaille. Scores were 25-17, 25-22, 25-20.
Nazareth also defeated seventh-ranked New York University and 12th-ranked Vassar in three-set sweeps Saturday and now stands at 8-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Seven of the Golden Flyers' eight victories have been sweeps.
Freshman
Tim Zyburt had another strong match for the Golden Flyers Sunday as he delivered 10 kills from his outside hitter position on 21 swings for a .381 hitting percentage. He leads the Golden Flyers overall with 69 kills. Sophomore
Brody Cord added eight kills and freshman
Josh Hieb had six.
Nazareth also produced 11 service aces, led by four from sophomore
Nick McDonagh, who also posted 18 assists. Senior
Connor Ecklund had three service aces and 15 assists.
The second set proved to be the closest and it was tied at 12-12 before Nazareth scored nine of the next 10 points to take a 21-13 lead. Seven straight points by Bard brought the Raptors to within 21-20, but Nazareth closed out the set with kills from
Bobby Beeman, Hieb,
Coulton Every and Zyburt.
Nazareth resumes its schedule Wednesday with a UVC match at Elmira at 6 p.m.
